2011 Inaugural B.A.A. 10K Recap

I reckon since I’m injured I mise well go back and talk about the runs I’ve done thus far this year.

Inaugural B.A.A. 10K – Boston, MA

Medal Winner & My Banana

My First 10K race.  Hurray!  I’ve run the distance just never raced it.  The course is essentially the same as the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge  just with an extension to make it a 10K rather than a 5K.  Oh and minus a few thousand runners - close to 4,000 vs. the 12,000 for the Corporate Challenge.  It’s a really nice course and probably a favorite because I’m so familiar with it.  Because of the extension we ran on Commonwealth where the MBTA is above ground and I even heard a little honk at the halfway point from a supportive train conductor. AWESOME.  The weather was humid and at points I felt like a sloth but those were the times I drafted off  fellow runners, thanks, and talked myself into a better head space.  All and all I really enjoyed the run.

Post Race –  As I finished they gave me a medal! My FIRST running medal.  I was even so EXTREEEEMEEE (come on people it’s an onamonapia) that I made the guy handing out the medals put it around my neck like a champion, classy Jessica, classy.  I grabbed a banana (shocker) and some Gatorade and saw that they were doing professional photos.  Everyone was taking their photos with their friends that ran with them.  Sadly, none of my friends run so my banana was my substitute, hence the above photo.  I kind of love it.  I think I’m going to make posing with a banana post race my thing.

Afterwards, I went to The Friendly Toast with some friends for an EPIC brunch. Complete with my medal around my neck.  I got asked about it and where I wanted to lie and say I won the whole dang thing, I was honest and said they gave them out to everyone.  But I  was still really proud to have it around my neck in public.  When I got home and saw my times, I was surprised and proud. Real proud.  I PR’d my 5K time (even though it doesn’t count) and PR’d the 10K (I know it’s my first one, but still).  With a time of 55:03 I was the 1,468 person to cross the finish line.  That’ll do pig, that’ll do.

The only thing I wish had happened was negative splits…I gotta stop going out like I’m running a 400 yd dash because that gas in the tank does run out, unless I see a photographer.

Clearly I'm not THAT tired. Goof.

More Smart Running, less see if you can out race everyone around you in the first 2 miles.
